Chapter Philanthropy and Service

Think Pink Week 

Each October, our chapter puts on "Think Pink Week," where we raise awareness and fundraise for Breast Cancer Education and Awareness through a variety of events. During Think Pink Week, you can find us in the UC breezeway passing out educational materials and pink ribbons to students and faculty.

To help kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month, our chapter partners with the University of Miami to put on our annual Fountain Lighting Ceremony, lighting up the Cobb Fountain at the center of Lake Osceola. During this event, keynote speakers share words about spreading awareness, the fight for a cure and even personal stories. Then, we all count down from ten and watch the fountain turn pink. This event is such a great way to help raise awareness, and we are so grateful to partner with the University on this each year.

In addition, we hold a variety of fundraising events throughout the week. In the past, we have done "Pie a Zeta" where we have UM community members pay for a pie to help fundraise. We have held food truck fundraisers, boutique trunk shows, penny wars, fraternity dodgeball tournaments, bake sales, basketball competitions, and even virtual 5ks.

Fashion Show

One of the biggest and most successful philanthropy events on the UM campus is our chapter's Annual Fashion Show. Our chapter has hosted this event for the last 30 years, and it is always the highlight of our spring semester. This year we reached the fantastic fundraising goal of just under $100,000. Our chapter has raised almost $1 million dollars for the ZTA Foundation during its entire history, and we could not have done it without our sisters dedication and the support of the community at-large.

Our committees and sisters work so hard to make this event a success and to raise as much money as we can. Donations are made in the form of silent auction/raffle items, advertisements in our program, and/or monetary contributions. All proceeds from the show are donated to the Zeta Tau Alpha Foundation, which distributes the funds to various Breast Cancer Research and Awareness Foundations. This event would not be possible without the support and generous contributions from parents, friends, and the community. We look forward to when we can host our next fashion show!
